The word “apocalypse” describes the end of the world. It comes from an Ancient Greek word meaning “revelation”.

Visions of the end of the world occur many times in the history of Judaism and Christianity. They are conveyed in dreams or in messages from angels.

In Christianity, the Apocalypse of John is the Book of Revelation, the last book of the Christian Bible. It describes the end of the world, and the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Islamic beliefs describe a Day of Last Judgement. This is when the dead will be raised from their graves. According to how they lived, Allah will send then them to eternal life in paradise or to eternal punishment.

This artwork is part of the ceiling of the Old Cathedral of Salamanca in Spain. It shows the scene of final judgement and resurrection from the Book of Revelation.
