In many religions, Hell or the Underworld is a place where souls of bad people go after life on Earth. It is often described as the opposite of Heaven or Paradise.

In Islam, Hell is called Jahannam. Some people believe that people judged badly by Allah will be sent to Jahannam. There, they will experience physical and spiritual pain for their wrongdoings.

Some Christians believe that Hell has real fire and flames, but others regard it as eternal separation from God. Some believe that people judged badly by God will be sent to Hell. There, they will be physically and spiritually punished for their sins.

In traditional Jewish thought, there are different understandings of a kind of underworld. For many Jews today, the idea of an afterlife is not as important as life on Earth.
